The Hope & Harbour Story
Hey! I'm Emily. Founder of Hope & Harbour Press and (almost) self-published author. When I was just 21 years old, I had a little vision whilst washing pots in my not-so-glamorous hospitality job. It was then, one mundane, soapy-handed evening shift, that I day-dreamed a children's story that has stuck with me ever since.
At the time, I was living in the Lake District, endlessly inspired by its historic account of literary legends and the beauty of the natural world around me. That love of storytelling, nostalgia and adventure eventually became the beginning of a deeper calling for me.
Over the years, I sought advice from authors, submitted manuscripts to publishers, and acumlulated my fair share of unanswered emails and rejection letters. But as I approached my thirties, encouraged by my family and friends, I decided it was finally time to take the leap into self-publishing and bring this world to life myself.
This particular story has been a north star for me throughout my twenties, carrying me creatively and emotionally through every move, challenge and chapter of growing up. Seeing it finally come to life feels incredibly special and I'm so excited to be sharing it with the world very soon.
And with that decision to really pursue this story, then came Hope & Harbour Press. Not just a publishing alias for my books, an ode to my Northumbrian upbringing, my family name, and my lifelong curiosity for adventure...but also a prospective literary lifestyle brand that brings together a community of likeminded people that search for wonder, warmth and a touch of escapism in their every-day lives.
I'm so excited to see where this journey takes me and if you got this far, thank you for coming along for the ride.
Happy reading!
